Dementia is physical illness

I have been visiting   two people with dementia. One who

shouts and screams a lot is quite rational if you can get used to her and calm her,  and be  present with your body.

Sometimes she likes to hear me sing,  to talk about her childhood  At other times she will say that But at times she can't control herself she can't listen and have a conversation so she is able to reflect.she can't walk and at the moment she is in her room all day. Extroverted so she doesn't like to be alone all the time but sometimes I've heard the staff sayings of someone in a similar situation.

We don't do one-to-one caring here. We have got a lot of other people times look after. One-to-one caring is what you need and you could only get that in a different kind of home

As it happens  there are fewer people here than there were.

I think there may be something wrong and they're not taking new people so it should not be so difficult to care for someone like this. But on the other hand families do not always take much responsibility for the older members and carers can't provide a social life

I feel angry that people like this in their 90s are expected to pay.

Dementia is an illness of the brain ;the cells are damaged or the connections between them it's a physical illness and even it was a mental illness in either case it should be looked after like other illnesses like cancer on the NHS

I realise there are serious problems in that sector in but principle they should be looked after by the NHS.

80% of care homes are private and they do not have constant supervision The care quality people will come round once a year but that's not very much and also people are afraid of complaining because they are afraid of being punished afraid of being asked to leave. It's hard when you're old to move to a different home and and have to let you know all the staff again when your memory is not very good

It must be very frightening for people who are confused and don't know what's going on. They might be better off in the hospital psychiatric unit at least on the NHS people do carry out inspections.
