They put me at risk of cardiac arrest because they did not believe me when I said I had angina

Image
i was in the hospital with acute coronary syndrome in 2006 when I was 61. but I do not have coronary artery disease. I have a rare condition called variant angina which is caused by the artery going into a spasm similar to what happens with migraine in the head. I was put on some medication and one thing I had to carry with me always was something called gnt spray. you spray under your tongues if you get chest pain and it dilates the arteries it is also used to make bombs probably what you get from the spray is not as strong as a bomb or it would kill you. when I have been here for eight months I said to the nurse I would like to speak to the doctor about my medications because they had reduced one of my medications called a calcium channel blocker which is the treatment for variant angins all of a sudden one afternoonp they took my spray because someone in management had told them that I did not have a heart condition but that I suffer from anxiety. you can buy a gtn spray over t

The editor is wondering about the nasty community matron

Image
Do you know that in the United Kingdom each authority or London borough has department of community health and Care who have nurses and physiotherapists and other practitioners serving the local community. There are s community matrons each with responsibility for different parts of the service They are also responsible for the health of people living in Care Homes. the most vulnerable people in the care homes are possibly the ones who have dementia especially when it's been with them to several years. I would think that whatever the Matron does or says to these people, however however cruel, or inappropriate they know that the patient will not be beleieved if they tell the carers. so for those who are on the psychopathic side they can vent their feelings with no fear of a comeback. you can complain to the integrated Care Board but not many people with dementia and being very very old there are not going to make a complaint because they are not capable. I think this is very dan

Sadism and dementia. How impingement can damage

Image
w We need a different word from carer are we also need to have some basic psychological intervention or training. in communication that you should look at someone and speak to them not speak at them. speaking up someone particularly trying to dominate them can be damaging and it achieves very little. in fact it's insulting. the fact that very few people in this country including the government can actually talk to someone rather than talk at all of us with no understanding is very very bad and I'm really sorry about it because I think it does damage. in winnicotion terms as discussed by Josephine Klein it can be an impingement on people particularly people did not have a good infancy. impingements wound and damaged people. when we talk to someone we hope to meet them not to wound them into silence. it's not surprising that it's easy to act in a sadistic manner without realising it fully. when someone is suffering from dementia as well they have no protection from jnki

Everybody in a care home has lost somebody

Image
The face I loved to contemplate is gone The image dwel ls no longer in my mind I once was sad to see it when I woke Now I’m even sadder by mind blind All perceptions fade if not renewed The ones we loved the most still disappear Perhaps when we’re asleep then they return We are passive though our love’s sincere As I grow old, I lose their shape and form Yes I see the smile before he died. I helped him to the river and the boat Now he Is no longer by m

The loss we suffer as we age

Image
The face that was familiar is erased And now I feel the emptiness within A lonely heart,a mind that seems half crazed By losing him,how greatly have I sinned? The face so dear, seemed etched upon my heart I did not see the writing on the wall Now my heart is blank, how shall I start? Never love another in this life? Measure Mathematics on a chart? Learn the poet’s worth yet feel the knife? The dagger in the heart, the loss of blood Anaemic, faint and weak, where shall we go? Like the chained up slaves felt, where is good? The Arctic wastes of life, the frost the snow. I smile and look contented , understood My patient hands alone now sweat with blood

The agent of your own life?

Image
Peoplr who are not children are expected to be and expect themselves to be the agent of their own life. They decide what they do as far as they can given them out of money especially they have and given the people they are involved with. until recently in England a woman who got married was expected to do whatever husband wanted to dlo. if you are in in Nursing home can you be the agent of your own life? if you have sold your moved into the Nottingham family you've already made a very big decision. but you should make more like what are you going to do every day question mark Do you have interest in hobbies. are you going to pursue them are you waiting passively for the staff to tell you what to do or you're waiting for the staff to become your friends and then complain if they dont sut with your old hair long nursing homes are businesses. they don't employ a lot of staff and the staff are there mainly to the gifted the physical health conversations and to keep them clean

Volunteer for a befriending servic

Image
if you do it like going into nursing homes or care homes why not join a befriending service. and visit soneone or some charities do it by telephone. so you would ring one person probably an old person once a week to say half an hour and just let them chat to you and as they get to know you it will be nice for the very kind. it makes a very big difference to people to have someone to talk to although men are worthless it than women so I'm not sure what the answer is because men die younger. or just be more friendly to people in your street and say hello or how are you when you pass them don't just ignore them I have seen an old man cry because he said good morning to a young neighbour and she didn't reply because she was very introverted and lived in a dreamworld of her own.

People were not divided into old and young until the industrial Revolution

Image
I do not think it's a good idea for people to the segregated by age. do my surprise I have discovered that it is a very modern development beginning with the industrial Revolution says that ultimately would lead to older people being put into homes so the the younger adults could work in factors and mills and coal mines. and now it's gone even further to use women in the workforce it's become almost normal for even the mothers of young babies to go back to work in a few weeks. you might you could explain that by the price of houses but it isn't just that. they want to get all the adults between let's say 16 and 70 into work so the children and the babies are with childminders or schools and the old people are in homes like leopards on the edge of the community cared for by lowly paid women sometimey show a great deal of love. personally I found it very difficult being in a place with several demented people because they do not have enough staff to give them the ca

Assumed helplessness

Image
Even if you say that you will comb your own hair the nurse will still be say, dont forgwt. I think being put in that helps us position every day is a cause of depression. see Martin Seligman's book,Learned helplessness. depression is very dangerous as it will reduce your interest in things and your energy levels and so on but as long as you are clean and your room is tidy as nd ckean that is it as far as the staff are concerned

Your room is so clean and neat it looks as if you are dead

Image
I find it hard that staff say but they will come and talk to me in five minutes and then they do not come and when it's something important and that is very upsetting. constantly waiting and if you are anxious is very hard. and then we can feel as if we are of no value or no importance to anybody at all because even when my neighbours daughter comes and she knows that something is wrong she speaks or writes to the manager or the deputy manager but nothing happens so she gives up despair can set in, once a new nursre came to my room and she said to me Gosh this room shows you are alive with your books and you r laptop your artwork and she said for many of the people this is if they're dead the room so clean and neat. and I have thought the same thing. when a carer just straighten my bed when I was bed bound she told me off for making the sheet crumpled by moving. I said I am moving because I am alive if I stopped moving I would be dead.

Privacy in a care home:you have none

Image
if you have your own room you may believe that you are got privacy. I had one drawer which I was using for my private things when several times clean it eithe how to empty 8 onto my bed without asking my permission when I was on the grounds that there might be some crumbs in it. this time while I was out of the room because they wanted to clean the floor really but when I went back we are turning all my positions not including my codes fortunately and they put books notebooks pens spectacles jewellery all jumped on my bed to anyone at all to see and cleaning woman and took out my private drawer and was about empty it onto the bed. play I was left to put everything back and during the following night I became ill with severe chest infection and I'm still ill now. I find it extremely intrusive and I never believed that no one could have the right to go through my personal belongings without me being there or without my permission. I felt assaulted. I had not realised how far they wo

She only wants attention... but don't we all all?

Lady was screaming. She is 100 years old that she has a severe spinal problem at the base. She is only giving painkillers don't always seem to work very well and she's an extrovert so she likes to see people, don't we all. I mentioned her to one of the staff as you said to me oh don't worry about her she only wants attention. Like she only wants air and water

Pray for the demented

They are like some other beings altogether the cry more animal than human The wordless pathos, musical, disturbing They have gone back to a troubled and unimagined infancy but no mother responds to such a nightmare of overgrown voice boxes the cry of a rabbit wolf in a trap it’s the shriek in the wall cry of a baby in a psychotic nightmare. Nicholas haunts Sylvia in the evocative memory of Ariel And so it will end for you and me Trapped in this old body with its old brain on and on they cry help me, help me,help me nurse nurse I want the manager I want the manager I don’t want to be here I don’t want to be here I want to go home Help me we don’t listen because they have dementia what they say has no meaning. that’s our defence I am the norm You are abnormal but you smiled when I asked you if you would like your hair dyed pink and I know you love the music therapist. Your smell repels Alas Is this where Jesus dwells If you did this to the least of my little on
