Residents should be given more choice about everything like for example how their hair to be combed

One thing which I did not realise at the beginning was that the staff seemed to take all the decisions out of your hands and if you're very ill you may not care But when you are not very well it is demeaning someone who has washed your hair to lift up your hair and comb It's all that was away from your face when you like to have you you parking on one side in the hair and coming forward a little bit. What is the managed to get the phone and Kermit the way I wanted it but then when the carers came back she said you should have it it turned off your face or it will get into your eyes . My hair was so short nothing came near my eyes. I think t's one more contribution to institutionalisation If you've only yiur clothes one day and you think that you could wear them for a second day anyway after all when the carer who wants to send everything to the laundry every single day and that's just ruined a lot of my nightdresses not to mention my day clothes Do they think they are helping you I don't know It's quicker I think. 0 one of the symptoms of institutionalisation is hypervigilance. You can imagine we are not meant to be hypervigilant all the time but sometimes people have suffered from trauma become hypervigilant permanently and it is a very horrible State of mind where you are tenants and waiting for danger and it makes you unable to sleep sometimes as noradrenaline keeps flashing through your body You can also lose confidence in your own skills that actually were perfectly alright when you came in. This is not apply this to nothing homes any kind of institution it is worth in prisoners because they are not giving much of anything like respect choice etc but when they go back to say to that can create terrible problems
